Since 1990, Mozambique has been developing as a tourist mecca. The most popular areas for holiday makers are the South Coast, particularly Maputo, (formerly known as Lourenco Marques). The best time to visit is the months of June to August, when both rainfall and temperatures are at their lowest. Later in
the dry season, in late August and September, the temperatures start to climb, but this is the best time to see big game.

The best time for birdwatching, on the other hand, is smack in the middle of the rainy season, usually November and December. Each of the major ethnic groups in Mozambique has its own language. The common tongue and official language is Portuguese. Mozambique has a rich artistic tradition
which, incredible as it may seem, continues to thrive after decades of colonial occupation and civil war
Mozambique with its wonderful islands is renowned for its diving or snorkelling, and the best places to go down are the beaches at Wimbi, in the north, or Tofu and Barra or the Bazaruto Archipelago, which has great reefs.

Birdwatching is popular in Mozambique, especially in the southern part of the country. The Maputo Elephant reserve, located on the ocean, is a good spot for birdspotting. Besides a visit to Maputo, Mozambique offers a range of island holidays where guests enjoy a range of fun activities and
watersports.
